I used to be a great believer in the saying that 'Procrastination was the theif of time' however I now wish to amend the quote and state 'facebook is the theif of time'.
Initially I did used to enjoy goin on facebook to retrieve long awaited messages from friends that were at other universities and therefore only touchable via facebook communication. However now I dread having to check my facebook profile page. All of the new applications drive me crazy I spend half my time stating that I wish to ignore a certain request and then before I know it an hour has easily lapsed. I find it sad that certain people spend hours sending these applications to friends and family. How can they be so easily seduced into the commercialsim facebook applications offer. Do they not realise these applications were created by the makers of facebook for the makers of facebook to ultimatly cash in via the notion that in making applications, users of facebook will ultimatly spend more time on the webpage. and in web language more time spent means more money invested.

I think a personal blog can be a good use for a diary, but it seems to me like you have to have some profound ideas and opinions about topics to get yourself noticed. Otherwise you are just another piece of plankton in the ocean!

I was really interested in the issue that you brought up about the severe lack of support websites for those who are overweight and found a very few little things like dating websites for 'Chubby Chasers' but what made me even sadder was why do these overweight people have to seek support online? It suggests that they are not receiving this support in their offline worlds which is even sadder and proves how far the media has turned us against the overweight!

I always used to think that blogs were a waste of time that they were full of insignificant personal details but I like the way that they are allowing people to have their true say on issues such as war and conflict. Have you seen the blog about the guy from the First World War which is similar? It adds a really interesting angle on these political blogs! (www.wwar1.blogspot.com)

Well the authorities dismissed the fact that they were watching violent films as irrelevent, because so many underage people watch certified 18 movies without having the urge to go out and torture an innocent 2 year old to death. There are so many cases against the theory that violent video games and films trigger violent responses in young people, but there is also an overwhelming number of cases in which it could be true. We can only do further research into whether such violence does trigger aggressive outbursts.

You could link this to the Jamie Bulger case as well- he was brutally murdered by two 10 year olds who had been watching films certified 18. There are so many cases now of children committing violent crimes, it's not hard to see that video games and films must be a major cause of this. it is always stated that they 'don't know what they're doing', as the parents of the boys who killed Jamie Bulger said, but surely they shouldn't be allowed to watch films and play video games that cause them difficulty in differentiating between real life and fiction.

I agree that the hoodie wearer is not the only one in our society trying to make a statement by what they wear, but there seems to be a lot of media attention on those who wear them, most of it bad attention. This is what makes us scared of them, not the wearer. They could have "York St John Christian Union" scrawled accross the front of it but on a dark night who is going to notice anything else other than the fact they are wearing a hoodie?

I too believe it is a sad fact that members of society label other individuals merely for their choice of attire, when the majority of society wear such items of clothing for the benigh purposes of keeping warm. However I do believe there are certainly a number of individuals who do try to affrim their thugish status by wearing such items of clothing in order to impose a certain statement upon society. Further more however it would be unfair of me to state that the hoodie gang are the only group within society of whom try to make a statement via the attire they promote. It would appear that the more fashion conscious individuals amongst us also make statements via the clothes they choose to wear. Sadly the power of the mass media seems to of biten every crevice of our society, materialism has seeped into humankind so drastically that it would seem even the clothes we wear sadly promote and advertise the consumer within rather then the individual.

I totally agree, I believe that the new age of consumerism which is sadly decending on us at a higher pace every second has lead to individuals being pressurised into consuming media propaganda much more efficiently. The way the media can manipulate their mass audience effotlessly in contempoary Britain has become a scary but undeniable fact.

If you look through magazines like 'Heat' and 'Closer', they're full of pictures of, and references to 'fat' celebrities, most of whom are probably a perfectly normal size, just not compared to the likes of Kate Moss!

It's all over the news at the moment about obesity and how dangerous it is, but nobody's mentioned how dangerous it is to be 5 stone, instead the media present us with images of the likes of Amy Winehouse who looks just as ill as someone 4 times her size!

Have you looked at some of the pro-anorexia sites online? It's where anorexics and bulimics write blogs and share tips on how to lose weight and stay thin. It is scary to think that these ill people are having such an effect on others, using the medium of the internet.
